No matter the size or condition there are a lot of small and simple things that you can do to make your house feel welcoming, cozy, and like YOUR home. Since there are so many ways to create a cozy home, we will start off with just a few.
5 Ways To Create A Cozy Home
Curtains
Curtains are the icing on a cake. The gravy to your mashed potatoes. The bacon to your eggs. (Making you hungry..huh?) One without the other isn’t just quite right. You may have done a lot of work to make your home look just right but curtains are what pull it all together.
You can express your personal style when it comes to curtains since there’s so many different colors and patterns. But if you’re really wanting to look for something that gives you that cozy feel, stay with neutral colors. White in my opinion is the best way to go since it will match with any changes in decor. But if you’re looking to do something more specific for an office or a kids bedroom, blues, greens, and pinks are calm and relaxing colors.
Tip: Always buy ceiling to floor length curtains. This will not only help with the cozy feel of the room but it will give your room the feeling of being bigger.
Plants
Have you ever noticed when you go to a park or are in a garden, it instantly calms you? Believe it or not, it’s all the GREEN. The grass, the trees, the plants. Nature has a way of calming us. It has been proven that the color green naturally calms us. Whenever you bring the outside in, you will create an automatic cozy feel to your home.
Now you may be thinking I don’t have much of a green thumb. A slight confession here, I don’t either. But you can find plants that are very easy to take care of. One of my personal favorites is a pothos vine plant. Another low maintenance plant is a snake plant. Or if you still don’t want to risk it you can buy artificial ones. They give you the same look and feel minus the work and the guilt.
Accent Walls
If you look at my home, you can tell that I am obsessed with a good accent wall. Accent walls help to bring a splash of your personality and warmth to your walls in your home.
But there is a key when it comes to accent walls. You don’t want to do anything too busy if you are wanting that cozy feel. Simple patterns or a calming color will do the trick. Colors like greens, peaches, terra-cotta, whites with a warm undertone, or brown grays a.k.a. greige will boost the cozy factor up a notch.
And the best thing about it is since it’s an accent wall, you don’t have to worry about painting every single wall in your home. Less work to create a cozy home.
Blankets & Pillows
What’s more cozier than being wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket tucked in fluffy pillows on a comfy couch? If that doesn’t give you the warm, comforting, and relaxing vibes I don’t know what will!
Adding some plush blankets and pillows effortlessly to your couch, or the edge of your bed, or in a basket beside your couch will no doubt give that extra touch of coziness to any room.
Every time you walk into that room, it will give you that inviting feel that you look for in a cozy home.
Pictures
I had a friend of mine that always complained that her house never felt like a home and one of the reasons was because she had bare walls. Pictures add so much life and a story to your home which instantly adds coziness.
In my office on one of my walls I have a picture of a country French café on a cobblestone street surrounded in flowers and greenery. When I look at it, I just imagine myself being there which relaxes me and makes my workspace feel cozy.
Have fun, be creative with your pictures. You can have pictures of your family, some landscapes, or maybe a picture of an ocean. Whatever brings in that cozy feel.
